unit 2 rosas

term 1 final performance project-rosas; log notes
11/11/16
we have been learning a piece called rosas Danst rosas  by Ann Teresa de Keersmaeker, it consists of motifs made up of four movements which have been repeated four times then in between each set there is a stop before going into another set of different movements. all the movements we learnt are done on a chair and consists of movements such has throwing our arms to the side of our body , smoothing our hair down and throwing our heads forward. the theme behind the piece is 'human behaviour' and its about different emotions that humans feel, each set of movements we learnt are put in order and we named them a to g so everyone knew what set of movements were in what order.
we have created a formation and put all the motifs that as a class we liked best and put them in an order we liked we done this by watching an online tutorial we also helped us see how the piece is meant to look and what time of emotion we should portray to the audience. We also devised a cannon situation so each group that we were put in was doing the same movements but each group would start at a different time, we then developed this by starting to create our own choreography within our groups
the strength in our group was we could all perform the choreography so far and we all knew how it was meant to look however I feel a weakness was no one was saying their ideas so two people always felt like they were taking charge rather than everyone working together however we overcame this problem by coming up with a solution where everyone had to say something and then from that we all had to make the decision on what looked best to the audience, next week we need to add more choreography to make up the required counts.

18/11/16
this week we added more choreography so we have enough counts we added aspects of the Beyoncé version and the original into our piece so you could see the contrast in theme, we rehearsed the transitions between each movement we did this by counting out loud the counts so everyone knew what movement was on what count and then going back to the beginning and going though it all slowly with the counts so everyone knew what they was doing, especially when it came to the cannons we needed them to be really seamless and smooth. I think the spacing was one the biggest challenges to overcome however we just has to keep in mind our spatial awareness when trying to choreograph new material. We considered changing the mood of some movements  to a happier one like the Beyoncé version and then switching it back to the original so you could see a clear contrast.in emotion. there's a section in our dance where were sitting on the chair and we do an outward round kick to the corner and then as we place our foot down we throw our body and head over our chair and snap back up the kick resembles Beyoncé's version however wanting to keep elements of the original  we added a head throw since it was in the piece we learnt already and worked well with our own movements. we used devices such as cannon , repletion, travel and levels which I think all worked effectively with the movements we decided to apply the device to.

in our final rehearsal before performing we added the last finishing touches to our piece fro example the transitions when piecing everyone's group choreography together , starting and ending positions, and also counts so everyone knew to move at the same time which makes the piece look a lot more cleaner and professional. to make sure we engaged with the audience well we made our movements strong and sharp and also positioned the chairs so everyone could see what was going on, everyone also had the same facial expression of 'annoyed' which I think engaged the audience because normally you would expect maybe cheesy smiles and bright eyes whereas this was the complete opposite. I think when devising this piece our group didn't want the audience to know what we had made up and what we had already learnt which I think went well as we carried on making our movements really strong and sharp and we was all in time with our cannons and I think we all did really well on keeping the correct emotion on our face even when performing our own choreography. the aim when choreographing new  material to be added onto something was to make it fit well all together and therefore keep the same meaning behind the dance so our aim was to create 32 counts of dance that kept in with the theme of the dance' human behaviour'.I think the most difficult thing we found when piecing everything together was making sure you go on your right count otherwise the cannon doesn't work and it becomes more of a unison piece which could come across as very repetitive in a boring way. the strengths of the work is the emotion was carried throughout  however I fell a weakness could have been maybe being more sure of what I'm doing so I can perform the dance to my  best ability without  worrying if I'm doing it wrong. the feedback from the audience was very constructive and helpful and they said is was sassy sexy and engaging also the facial expressions were good everyone was committed to the performance and it had good energy.
