13/09/16 week 1 session 1
today we worked in groups and in partners and done exercises that helped us develop the techniques "listening to your partner, relationship to other performers , relationship to the space, design in space, shape , pathways and unison and flocking " we done this by walking around in partners and without speaking we had to walk around and then stop and the idea was in complete silence you should be able to feel when your partner is about to stop, we also go into a massive group and developed the skill flocking by walking within the group and keeping the given formation copy the 'leader' the 'leader' could then pass this power onto someone else who would then have to come up with something and everyone would then copy them. we also done another exercise where we could incorporate all the skills we learnt into a little routine we then showed the class. I found the partner work the most difficult when we had to stop and start as I have never done anything like that before. When working with others you have to consider everyone's ideas especially when working in a group as everyone wants to be heard however I worked effectively with my peers as I feel we produced a very strong creative routine.
16/09/16 week one session 2
today we danced out our names fro example when I did the letter c I did an outward round circle with my arm whilst stepping to one side and brining my other leg in to meet it, we then developed this by travelling each letter by pretending we was on a giant phone and had to travel to each letter , we then performed our pieces in partners which meant incorporating partner work like point of contact, unison and a jump, we then performed our names pieces in a massive group which resulted in a piece of abstract dance. I found difficult remembering what space I had to be in especially when working in a big group because there's so many people doing their own thing you have to be very aware of you surrounding..
session 3
today in class we wrote down a journey that we had been on , the journey could have been anything , either personal, physical or emotional and after we wrote it down we had to shorten it to key words that made up the story or key words that made the journey you went on special my key words were friends, dance , her majesty's theatre and swan lake, we then put these key words down on a bigger piece of paper and wrote down how we could perform it and what type of movements to do. The strengths in the class for me was analysing what words to use however the weakness was trying to come up with dance moves that replicated the words.
session 4
this week we finalised our journey solos as for homework we had to choreograph our solos so during the lesson we performed them to everyone and was given feedback my feedback was look up more and to travel more. my strengths was I remembered my piece well and could dance it to everyone however my weakness was to perform it more to the audience for example lifting my eye line and making more use of the space.
session 5
in todays class we worked in partners . we worked with esol ' scripts' , stones and language alphabets we then analysed our given stories and picked out words that we liked the look of and drew them out on a piece of paper . we then went ahead and danced what we could see and this then became a routine. the strengths was good transitions, and creative movements however our movements split the stage too much so we have to bring them closer together. I worked really well with my partner to produce an effective piece.
session 6
today we developed our pieces on the story that was written in different language by changing certain movements adding more techniques such as partner work unison point of contact and travel. the strength is we worked well together and have great ideas, however we struggle to remember what we created. we now need to remember the routine and clean it so its nice and sharp and looks strong. we added moments of unison such as a stag jump facing the corner, we also made point of contact where we face each other and bed our legs and we touch hands with each other and move them in different directions.. when putting in travel we had to consider that there's only two of us so any travel we created we made sure that we didn't travel away from each other too much in order to make sure we didn't split the stage.
session 7
today we finalised our performance and set everyone's pieces in a space so everyone knew what formation was for what piece we also cleaned all the pieces we created to ensure we all knew what we doing and then finally we rehearsed it in the theatre to make sure when we perform it is actually possible and there is no danger with the lights around the stage , this also helped me get a better idea of where I should look because I need to keep my eye line high so it gives a better performance. The strength is I know what I'm doing and where I'm meant to be however my weakness is to be more spatially aware.
Bloomsbury festival 'babble' evaluation
university college London (ucl) was the venue where we performed the piece 'babble' which was on Gower street at the Bloomsbury festival, there was also other stalls and pieces that put on something for the public. in order to prepare for the performance we had to remember our costumes and we also did a warm up and stretch. At college the performance space was much bigger so we had to be more aware of our positioning also we wore costumes on the actual performance but not n the rehearsals. To ensure we was all safe we took off our socks to stop us from slipping we also had to space out some of the performance as collision occurred. I think both pieces went successfully well however in the first performance me and my partner shouldn't have moved as far forward as we did because there was a slight collision however this was corrected in the second performance. I think we all worked very well together and majority of the time was aware of our peers around us, I think duets that everyone did worked effectively. the audience was parents, general public and events organiser the audience reacted well to our performances it was very abstract and everyone had their own view. the strength of the performance was there was nice moments of unison in the duet and I remembered the routine however to improve I need to raise my eye line when performing. this performance taught me professionalism and also improved skills of stamina as the routine was very tiring and we done it twice.
